Don't know if this review has been posted before, but since it's been slow on the forum lately, I thought it would be nice to post this great review of Renee and "Skylark"

Skylark
Article By: Henrie GeyserThu, 16 Apr 2009 14:02

It's been a long time coming but Renee Olstead's new album, 'Skylark', was certainly worth the wait — it is an absolute gem of a collection of classics plus a few of her own creations.

Her style is a very special blend of ballroom, jazz, blues and boogie and it makes for delightful listening.

Her voice is polished without being clinically refined. Her range is free of boundaries and she brings her unique sparkle to a number of golden oldies. In fact, she does it better than some of the stars who made them famous in the first place.

Loved the title track, 'Skylark'. It has been done by many artists over the years but she adds a lot more depth and emotion to it.

Remember the old Doris Day foxtrot, 'Ain't We Got Fun'? Well, you won't believe what Olstead does with this number!

Other greats include 'Stars Fell on Alabama'. Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin and Old Blue Eyes all sang their versions and I reckon she is right up there with them.

And even old Nat King Cole would have been proud of the way she does 'When I Fall in Love'. So would Ray Charles for the magic she brings to 'Hit the Road Jack'.

She goes quite bluesy with her own tunes such as 'Midnight Man', 'Midnight in Austin Texas', 'Nothing but the Blame' and 'Hold me Now'.

This is undoubtedly one of the best albums of this genre that I have had the pleasure of reviewing for a long time.

Quality and class such as 'Skylark' don't date. I reckon Miss Olstead has created a true classic that's going to entertain us for many years to come.

Nice review, obviously Mr. Geyser has excellent taste! He really "gets" what Renee is all about!
